The
PWDG’s mission is to empower and build confidence in women throughout
the UHH community. PWDG is a non-profit student organization aimed at
the well-being and happiness of its members. In the upcoming year we
plan to organize a dance class incorporating all styles of each woman.
The
program is simple; a dance is taught in two weeks by one member. During
this period of time the sharing member can express openly through
dance. The member is provided with choreography videos for the
rationale that they will study them and get inspiration, ideas, and
motivation for the group. The member will teach their routine to the
other members, which they will then have the opportunity to perform.
The
objective of the PWDG to uplift and
maintain a positive atmosphere for women at the University of Hawaii at
Hilo. It gives female students a chance to be involved in a
comfortable, supportive atmosphere of women.
This women’s dance group helps in stress relief, exercise,
and self-reflection in a warm atmosphere, giving the women a chance to
identify and individualize within themselves through the art of dance.
As
student organization at the University of Hawaii at
Hilo, Pulse-Women’s Dance Group (PWDG) joins strong women of
different cultures to, collectively with their talents and love of
dance, generate support of the members that will fuel and enhance their
lives. Dance is a beautiful symbol and choreography is a way of
expressing the meanings of an individual and their culture. This
cultural process is related highly to social interaction, because
dancing has the power to unify. It has the power to merge lives of
individuals spanning from many different social, political, and ethnic
affiliations. We use the “dance language” to communicate in sharing our
identities as the beautiful women we are.
